“What is man without energy? Nothing. Nothing at all.”  ~Mark Twain   Tweet This

With all of the gimmicks and advertisements about ways for us to increase our energy, what’s been lost in all the noise is the fundamental idea that as energy, (both YOU and I) that the ONLY way we can reach our goals is to expend energy. This is obvious and at the same time very important and here’s why: Energy, as defined by its Latin root “energia” or Greek “energos” (in work), and defined today as; “the capacity to do the work.”

In order for you to make the most of your “work capacity” it’s important to understand the “Laws” of energy. This is something I originally wrote about in The Habit Factor (over four years ago) and seems to be getting a lot of play these days.

How does this apply to HABIT and goal achievement?

HABIT is the most efficient use of our energy when it comes to our behavior. Therefore, it only makes sense that when it comes to achieving our goals, crafting the right, supportive habits becomes essential.

In this episode we touch on some of Newton’s Laws of Physics and how they correlate to strategies for increasing your productivity (5:45) and later on, we even discuss the influence of energy and “difficult vs smooth” relationships.

  1. An object in motion tends to stay in motion
  2. Force = Mass x Acceleration
  3. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

As the Navy SEALs like to say, “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.” Friction causes tension, so challenge yourself to be more mindful of your responses which might negativity drain your energy and attention.  A key idea is that on any given day, energy is limited and with limited reserves it pays to avoid drama in the interest of achieving your short and long-term goals.
